The Unexpected Places Change Will Come From

• These two articles, one from a blog, the other from an online academic publication are essentially saying similar things. That multinational corporations will by virtue of seeking more consumers and profits, have to invest in third world markets and talent and foster development. Not sure if this is wishful thinking or fact but it's still an interesting, unusual perspective.

Great Podcast coming out of New Caledonia

• For those who understand French, check out this podcast/guided tour of their village given to New Caledonia-based Sebastien Merion by two women from the local Ouipin tribe. Sebastien is a graphic designer too so his visuals are always fun.
  

NCHR email about Haitian-American Bishop

• Here is an excerpt from a National Coalition for Haitian Rights email I received today:

The Most Reverend Guy Sansaricq will be ordained tomorrow August 22, 2006 as Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Brooklyn.

This is a historic and felicitous occasion for Our Church and community. His appointment marks the First Haitian-American Bishop nomination to the US Catholic Church and the First Black Bishop to serve in the Diocese of Brooklyn. His nomination is an acknowledgement by the Church to serve the ever increasing needs of the diversity in the Diocese of Brooklyn.

Reverend Sansaricq is also on the board of NCHR and a gala is being organized to celebrate his promotion this Friday.

Boston Globe Article on Global Voices and Blogs

A great article came out in the Boston Globe about Global Voices' work and blogging in other non-western countries. You can find the article here (you may or may not have to register with the Globe but it will be free.)

I was interviewed at length for the article and you will find me quoted in it. However, note that my comment is about my work with kiskeyAcity, not my work with GlobalVoices, a fact which the article omits.

Note that a recurrent concern by international bloggers is that their countries are often ill-represented by mainstream media and many hope they can put in their 2 cents to correct certain perceptions with their blogs.

Sak Pase? I apologize to all of you for being away for so long and with no warning. I was involved with a very pressing project that took up all of my energy for the bulk of July. I missed everyone. The project is now over and will be sharing all of the great links and other finds I've been hording shortly.

• It's almost shocking how the opening of the Telecom market in T&T generated a set of events that closely parallels the opening of the market in Haiti: local competitors attempting to clean up their act and lowering prices, improved service, interconnection battles. New Haitian Blogs from La Gonave to Scotland

Supporting Children in La Gonave

• A new Haitian blog, Notre Dame de Guadalupe, popped up out of La Gonave, an island off of Haiti of all places. The first and only post so far was on an event celebrating children's rights. Notre Dame de Guadalupe seems to be a children's oriented NGO based on the island and I added it to the Haiti-based blogroll, at the bottom right of the home page.

Following Love in Scotland

• Check out Adventures in Negroshire, a blog by kiskeyAcity commentor Peggy Brunache. She moved to Scotland from the US recently to join her Scottish beau. She chronicles her life there with humor and ineresting images. Lots on cuisine, farmer's markets and culture. Added to Haitian Diaspora blogroll on the home page.

• Oh and while we're at it, the 3rd edition of the Global Voices Show podcast is here. Haven't heard it yet but if it's anything like the first two, it should be fun and incredibly eclectic.

When Bloggers and Chocolate come together... Nyashazaza from the Global Parish has been friends with fellow haitian blogger Nighshift Chronicles for quite a while. I only met him in person recently and a six degrees can of worms ensued. When I went to Nyashazaza's Wine & Chocolate soiree last Saturday, I met yet another brooklyn blogger, Richard Louissaint the Haitian Eclectic, whose blog I added to my Haitian Diaspora blogroll a couple of months ago.

• Haiti, Ghana, Brazil: Football Allegiances by Ferentz Lafargue at Nighshift Chronicles. Somehow, slavery enters a sports debate that should on the surface be about personal and ( national) preferences. Basically at the end of the day, when it comes to soccer, "tout ayisyen se brezilyen" (i.e. "All Haitians are Brazilian" in Creole.)
