Legacy of 1804 | Kenneth Merten Bamboozles Haitians in Brooklyn #LOF1804 #Haiti

Join me this Friday night (tonight) at 9PM as I summarize and play various reactions to U.S. Ambassador Kenneth Merten's recent visit to Brooklyn where he purported to offer a Retrospective of US Foreign policy in Haiti after two panelists who conveniently spoke only of Haitian government weaknesses. Merten's remarks looking back at US Foreign policy in the last 20 or so years were very short and he scraped the surface of the many serious blows dealt to Haitian rice farming, the Black pig and to the country's infrastructure through the 90s embargo.

But most of all, Merten bamboozled the community when questions were raised about his involvement in announcing election results in 2010 that were contrary to what two electoral council members and a former OAS official found to be the actual result.

The event was protested by KOMOKODA, a grassroots organization who felt Brooklyn College should not have invited someone with Merten's destructive policies towards Haiti to speak at the new Haitian Studies Institute.

Listen to reactions by Dahoud Andre of Komokoda, Daniella Bien-Aimé of the Bien-Aimé Post and Hugues Girard, among others.

You can listen live or archived at the below player or at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/pancaribbean/2017/04/01/legacy-of-1804-amb-kenneth-merten-bamboozles-haitians-in-brooklyn-lof1804. You can also listen live only at 714-242-6119.

POST-SHOW HIGHLIGHTS

Another amazing show full of serendipity what with Professor Claude Joseph, one of Merten's co-panelists calling in to offer his views of the event. We were also joined by none other than Dady Chéry of the News Junkie Post who offered, along with Hugues Girard, that listeners and guests of this show need our own think tank, one not commandeered by the State Department or dismissive of the protests and concerns of entrenched Brooklyn community groups such as Komokoda.

We listened to clips of questions asked of Merten at the event by Daniella Bien-Aimé and me respectively on Merten's changing of official elections results in 2010 and the US' role in centralizing the Haitian government in Port-au-Prince.

We also discussed panelist Vanessa Léon's implied thesis that the problem with US Foreign Policy in Haiti is Haitians and the Haitian government.

Legacy of 1804 | Digicel in Haiti: Friend or Monopolistic Foe? | Debate with Marten Boute @mboute #LOF1804

This Friday at 9PM, join me as I welcome Digicel Chairman Maarten Boute and last week's guest Giles Colbert Charleston of  Association of Haitian Professionals (AHP) to debate Digicel's impact in Haiti today.

We'll discuss Digicel and the Haitian telecom market, specifically issues of competition, Digicel's (failed) attempt to block VoIPs, quality of service and various grievances about Digicel increasingly expressed by Haitians. Also, did Digicel meddle with the last presidential elections?

Giles Colbert Charleston agreed to come back to the show to debate what he meant when he said last week that Digicel is acting increasingly as a monopolistic actor in Haiti. This show was spurred by Digicel chairman Maarten Boute reaching out to me to take exception to this statement and asking for a chance to respond.

Join us for this promising debate!

Make sure to send us questions or join us live with them.

Legacy of 1804 | Joel Dreyfuss is Back Live #LOF1804 #Haiti

This Friday night at 9PM, join me as I welcome journalist Joel Dreyfuss again, this time live. When he was last here we discussed his Washington Post article Only Haitians Can Save Haiti, the media's failure to predict Trump's win and his forthcoming book on 300 years of his family in
Haiti. See notes here. This time he will answer questions left unanswered from the last show and we will also discuss other articles such as The Helplessness of Haiti -- no we don't love this title -- and Donald Trump Discovers Haiti.

Joel has been a top editor at the leading technology magazines, a
senior editor and Tokyo bureau chief at Fortune, New York bureau chief of USA Today, executive editor of Black Enterprise and a feature writer and music critic for The Washington Post. He was managing editor of The Root from 2009 to 2011. He co-authored The Bakke Case: The Politics of Inequality. A native of Haiti and long-time New Yorker, Joel now lives in Paris, where he is completing a book about his family’s 300-year involvement with Haiti.

Legacy of 1804 Star Predictive Panel on Haiti and Trump Presidency #LOF1804

This Friday at 9PM, join me and the star panel who predicted Trump's win on last week's broadcast as we reconvene to discuss the results, the shock of how awful the out-of-touch mainstream media was at predicting the outcome and what to expect from President Trump's foreign policy in Haiti.

Returning guests:

Dahoud André - KOMOKODA activist and radio host

Garleen St.Germain - Team Bernie NY Organizer

Hugues Girard - citizen journalist and frequent guest co-host of LOF1804

Samuel Maxime - Editor in Chief of Sentinel.ht

We'll also be joined by:

Daniella Bien-Aimé of the Bien-Aimé Post.

You can listen on the player below or go to http://www.blogtalkradio.com/pancaribbean/2016/11/12/legacy-of-1804-star-predictive-panel-on-haiti-and-trump-presidency-lof1804 or on the phone at 714-242-6119.

CORRECTION TO AUDIO: During this live broadcast,  I said that I thought that Dahoud might have voted for Bernie Sanders in the Primaries. Dahoud wanted me to rectify that he is not a US citizen and thus could not have voted in the US election. In Dahoud's words: "KOMOKODA had asked Haitians to vote for Bernie Sanders for the same reason it asked them to vote for Donald Trump, as a means to stop the corrupt and criminal Clintons from getting back to the White House. Definitely not because of any ideological affiliation or because it believes that either Sanders or Trump would be a friend of Haiti."

Legacy of 1804 Haiti News and Blog Review #LOF1804

Apologies for not holding a show last week at the planned time. I have been testing newer, better sound options and was in limbo between two such options neither of which was working properly at our usual meeting time last Friday.

I did not announce tonight's show for fear that the new sound system was still not working. But I held the show and everything worked out fine. The resulting audio is below. It is now in High Fidelity, which I am very happy with. I was receiving routine complaints that my voice was too low in the former call -in format. Now I am using BlogTalkRadio HiFi Beta with a brand new Yeti mic. The audio is satisfactory and much better than before but can still use some minor perfecting so I will keep experimenting.

Tonight I discussed two articles:

  1. Clinton E-Mails Point to US Intervention in 2010 Haiti Elections | Haiti: Relief and Reconstruction Watch | Blogs | Publications | The Center for Economic and Policy Research http://cepr.net/blogs/haiti-relief-and-reconstruction-watch/clinton-e-mails-point-to-us-intervention-in-2010-haiti-elections via @ceprdc
  2. Trump to meet in Miami with skeptical Haitian Americans | Miami Herald http://www.miamiherald.com/news/politics-government/election/donald-trump/article101796122.htmlvention-in-2010-haiti-election

The first is significant because we have held several shows here arguing that Hillary Clinton was instrumental in stealing the 2010 election for Martelly. At that time our sources were non-American. But now we find proof of this in leaked Hillary emails, namely in comments made by one Laura Graham, COO of the Clinton Foundation.

The second is interesting because Trump is doing outreach in the Haitian community in Florida that many lobbied for Sanders to do but to no avail. That omission on the part of the Sanders campaign was disappointing in light of the fact that Sanders was allegedly having trouble making inroads with the black electorate. I say allegedly because many believe Democratic primary results were in fact rigged.

Legacy of 1804 on HaitianAllStarz Radio discussing Bernie, Hillary, Trump #LOF1804

Join me tonight at 9PM as I broadcast my passage on Dj Hard Hittin Harry's Haitian All Starz show last tuesday for Women's History Month.

Of course there was TONS of music punctuating the chat with Harry and Jordine Dorcé, formerly of Essence. Ayinsko also joined in along with a few (sometimes wacky) callers.

We discussed my favorite topic these days i.e. the Clintons and Haiti, Bernie Sanders, Farrakhan and Donald Trump.

If you would like to canvas for Bernie Sanders with me this Saturday in Brooklyn, please go here.

The link to live stream or post cast will be posted here shortly. You can also listen on the phone at (714) 242-6119.
