POST SHOW HIGHLIGHTS


In the first segment we heard Pascal Robert discuss color and class in Haiti, the grandon, creole v. African-born blacks during the Haitian revolution, what distinguishes Black nationalism in the US from Haitian or Nigerian nationalism.

Then we heard a clip I recorded at an event commemorating the lives of the late Claude Pierre, Serge Legagneur and Jean- Claude Fignolé, all of whom died in the past 2 months. In the clip Jean Refuse remembers Claude Pierre and his activism on behalf of Akademi Kreyòl Ayisyen. 

 Lastly, we went over the latest Miami Herald article on cholera victims in Haiti demanding compensation from the UN.

I played my thank you remarks at the Afrolatino Festival (I received a Cultural Preservation Award for my Wikipedia work with Afrocrowd) as well as those of awardees Susana Baca, Gloria Karamañites, Zahira Kelly and Elizabeth Acevedo.

I also discussed what an Afrolatino is and the purpose of the Afrolatino Festival with Amilcar Priestley, whether Haitians are Afrolatinos with Ayanna Legros and the film on Father Joseph and Fonkoze that Steeve Coupeau is distributing.

Legacy of 1804 | Musician Keb, Filmmaker Will Prosper, Strike Leader Dominique St-Eloi #LOF1804







Join me this Friday night at 9PM for an amazing lineup on Legacy of 1804.

This is a pre-recorded show as I am receiving a cultural preservation award from the Afrolatino Festival on Friday night.

In segment one, we listen to Jafrikayiti interview Montréal-based Haitian artist Keb (Kebert Bastien) on why he considers it his duty to reflect and amplify important Haitian political issues in his music. (Kreyòl)) They are joined in the segment by Haitian-Canadian filmmaker Will Prosper to discuss his activism in Montreal on behalf of Pierre Coriolan, a mentally ill Haitian Canadian who was recently gunned down by the police in his home. In segment two, we hear Dahoud André of Eritye Papa Desalin interview Haitian labor leader Dominique St-Eloi on where the labor strikes in Haiti and their demands stand. (Kreyòl)
